A75 to Pied Méjean

We are about 40 km from the A75, the motorway to the west of us, running down to Pezenas, Beziers, Narbonne and Spain.  But given the winding roads this often takes about 45 minutes.

Turn off the A75 at junction 48 onto the D7. This goes towards St Affrique to the west and to Alzon and le Vigan to the east. Just keep following the signs to le Vigan (at Sauclières the D7 becomes the D999). Pass through the villages of Alzon, Arre and Bez.

A couple of km after Bez you come to the sign (not much warning) for the village of Cavaillac.

Immediately after there is a new, rather complicated roundabout, replacing what used to be a dangerous left turn on a blind corner.

Turn left (ie go right round the roundabout and take the third exit).

This map may help you complete the last few kilometres:

Go along this road for two-three km (ignore the turning to the left to the village of Molières) until you reach the hamlet ‘Les Plans’.

Turn left at le Plan, towards Bréau etc (as opposed to continue ahead to Aulas and Arphy).

Go leftwards over another bridge (don’t take the right fork just before it, signposted to La Mouline), keep going ahead towards Serres and Salagosse. Ignore the sharp hairpin left up the hill to Bréau. After a straightish bit of road, you come to le Pont de Mars (a right bend). The road then takes a few wiggles up the hill and you come to a junction, with Mars to the left and Serres-Salagosse straight ahead.

At this junction you are in our  hamlet, or lieu-dit, called Couloustrine (and therefore the address for the guesthouse).

Le Mazet – the guesthouse –  is on the Serres road, on the left, immediately after this junction. Park in front of the black garage gates just before the house itself.

Main house

Just to complicate things, my current house, a few terraces up is in another lieu-dit, Pied Méjean

To get to the main house, at this last junction, take the left turning to Mars, and then about 200 metres take the righthand turn, up a steep, winding lane.  My house is the second one on the right (gates normally open – drive in, room to turn around further on):
