Kitty is perhaps Edinburgh's most famous cello teacher: she has taught generations of cellists, many of whom have gone on to professional careers; others have her to thank for their lifelong love of the cello. Kitty taught both our daughter, Jude, and for a short while, me.
When she went blind, in her late 80s, Kitty 'retired', keeping on just a few adult pupils. In July 2003 Kitty presided over a magnificent
100th birthday concert and celebration. In July 2004, Kitty died, about a week before her 101st birthday. Right up to the end she was still listening to former pupils' accounts of their trials and tribulations, and still going to concerts.Photos taken by Frances Allen.
